Are you trying to change a behaviour, reaction, or habit — but keep repeating the same pattern? Often the behaviour we can see is not the real issue — it’s the belief underneath it. Romans 12:2 connects transformation with the renewing of our minds. Before a belief can be renewed, it first needs to be recognised. This teaching helps you identify the beliefs that may be keeping you stuck in repeated patterns.
Some of the beliefs we carry today may have begun during powerful experiences from our past. Something happens—and consciously or unconsciously—we form a conclusion about ourselves, other people, life or even God. Over time, that conclusion can begin to feel like a fact.

How can you recognise a belief you may not even realise you are carrying? One place to begin is by looking at repeated patterns and strong emotional reactions. Why does criticism sometimes feel like rejection? Why can conflict immediately trigger defensiveness or withdrawal? Why can certain situations make us feel that we are not good enough?

Why can certain behaviours be so difficult to give up—even when we know they are not helping us? Sometimes a behaviour continues because it is doing something for us. It may provide temporary relief, comfort, pleasure, escape or control. In Part 4 of the Transformation Series, we look beyond simply asking, “How do I stop this?” and begin asking a deeper question: “What is this behaviour doing for me?”

A belief may have influenced your life for many years without being permanently true. Once we identify a limiting belief, we can begin asking: Where did this belief come from? Is it always true? What evidence challenges it? And does it agree with the character of God and the truth found in Scripture? In the final teaching of the Transformation Series, we explore how limiting beliefs can begin to be challenged and replaced with healthier beliefs grounded in biblical truth.
